Wildwood COTD : 8, The Stag

Tuesday’s card is from the Major Arcana and is card 8, The Stag. In the RWS decks, this card is Strength (Or Justice, depending upon how you learnt your Majors), and there’s a good case of Strength and Justice with this card. This fellow sits on the Wheel of the Year with The Archer at Spring Equinox. He is associated with the sunrise and the element of Air and he is in the position of universal lore. He reminds me of Herne the Hunter from the 80’s TV show, Robin of Sherwood.

The book on this card says that the concepts of forgiveness and reward are not appropriate here, they’re just human ideas which have no reality in natural lore. You get out what you put in and if you are right or generous with your actions, then you may find that you become fulfilled or at peace. Being greedy and vengeful may well bring your loneliness or disillusionment.

The key word Mark & John put with this card is responsibility. We constantly observe the rules and regulations or society and these are bound to change as the views and the knowledge of civilization changes. Whether on a political or moral level, we know within ourselves when a realignment of our perception is due. It is commented in the book that this often happens in the spring, with the fires of creation.

If that is the case, I’m about half a year out. And if I can work out what my realignment was / is, I’ll post back.
