I love this tree, I already knew it was a tree of protection, which is why I planted one in the garden six years or so ago and one sapling last year near the front of the house. Wildwood COTD : Major #3, The Green Woman

Today, on this restful Sunday, we have The Green Woman come out to shine a leafy smile at us. Until this deck, I had never realised that there was a Green Woman. Of course, the Green Man I had heard of before, I have a plaque of the Green Man on my garden wall. But his female consort? Never heard of her, though I know her from the RWS as The Empress. This however, is from The Greenwood, so while some of the RWS ideas of fertility, good ideas, nurturing, motherhood and protection apply here, there’s more to her than that. One train of thought I often have with this card, is what is she using that cauldron for? What is in it? What of the sheela-na-gig at the front of the golden amber cup? (And if that is a cup, that’s a mighty huge cup of whatever!) I wonder…
