Today’s Card of the Day is from the Major side of the Tarot and is card 14, Balance. In RWS, this is Temperance, the card indicating major balance and patience. In the Wildwood, it is the card that comes up at Beltane on May 1st.
With the Wildwood, the two serpents represent the two basic colours of the primal world: red for blood, fire and iron, while white takes on milk, ash and bone. If you know a little part of the Arthurian legends, you’ll know that they involve a red dragon (Arthur’s side) and a white dragon for the side of the invading Saxons, which may or may not include Morgana Le Fay.
It all gets confusing around Arthur and Morgana Le Fey: were they cousins or half siblings? No one is quite sure. However, that’s for another discussion, my knowledge starts going shaky around those two.
For now, we have the need to be balanced and patient. Patience is an acquired skill, one I find very hard to apply and use. I want it all, and I want it now (as Queen sang). For now, I need to rest, contemplate and focus. I need to calm down (ha!!) and find my inner balance that will enable me to see beyond the present state. That is much easier typed and said, than done I can tell you!
Typical then that this card also deals with facets of my psyche that I would rather not deal with, but must at the moment for lots of reasons. Denying them just is not going to be allowed to happen. Balance is an absolute must now, for if I do not, I may give into fear. There is nothing to fear but fear itself, so it is said Sonsu said. Sure, FDR is claimed to have said it, but I don’t think he was the first and he sure as heck is not going to be the last, for I just repeated it.
So, today I have the natural state of balance to find and achieve, the plateau I need to reach that will give me access to the higher self that will open before me. Boy, I will try!
