Today, on this restful Sunday, we have The Green Woman come out to shine a leafy smile at us. Until this deck, I had never realised that there was a Green Woman. Of course, the Green Man I had heard of before, I have a plaque of the Green Man on my garden wall.
But his female consort? Never heard of her, though I know her from the RWS as The Empress. This however, is from The Greenwood, so while some of the RWS ideas of fertility, good ideas, nurturing, motherhood and protection apply here, there’s more to her than that.
One train of thought I often have with this card, is what is she using that cauldron for? What is in it? What of the sheela-na-gig at the front of the golden amber cup? (And if that is a cup, that’s a mighty huge cup of whatever!)
I wonder what she is brewing in there. Is it going to show me my future? I already know my past, but do I want a mirror held up to it? If I am to move forward, sometimes, I need to do this. But quite often, I just want or need a huge, motherly hug.
Anyway, why has this lady shown up today? She shows up at a time of rich nurturing and protection, of learning and initiation. The Green Woman can show us the path to understanding and communication with nature, especially when relationships in its many forms are abound.
What is abound in your life today? What do offer protection from? Or do you need The Green Woman’s protection for yourself, like we all do from time to time. Come and talk to me about her, I welcome the comments and I would love to read your cards.
