Wildwood Answers: The 30 Day Tarot Challenge ~ Day 3

Today, question 3 from the 30 Day Tarot Challenge at 78 Keys is this: Do you have more than one deck that you use, and, if so, do you have a favourite? If not, why do you like the deck you have chosen?

Two of Vessels
Wildwood

Do I have more than one deck? Yes, I do. How many? At the current count, 52, NOT counting the one Tarot deck that is on its way to me (Which is the Wild Unknown) and the two Lenormand I have in the collection, and the 16 Oracle decks that I have as well. Do I have a favourite? Of course I do! The Wildwood! (laughs) but I have others that I like a lot too! Any and all of Ciro’s Tarot and Oracle decks, The Robin Wood, The Pagan Tarot, The Witches Tarot, The Druidcraft, The Sharman Caselli, The Faulkner, Mystic Dreamers, to name some of my most common working decks.

The Wildwood card I picked to represent all these decks is the card of Attraction, the Two of Vessels. I don’t and cannot work with a deck I am not attracted to in some way.

There’s the question of “Why so many decks?” The answer is simple. So many clients! What suits you the reader for one session, may not suit you the next time, or indeed, the next sitter / person who seeks my services. When a deck is used, I take it out of the equation, place it under a Crystal Shakra wand, and let it “sit” out a turn. Then, when it’s the next full Moon, I place the wand in a layer of salt in a tub and sit it in the moonlight to “cleanse”, then back into the bag it goes, waiting for the next time.

I keep my working decks in specific Tarot bags, usually made by AniaM, though there are other made bags in there, depending on how I acquired them. Each bag tells me at a glance which deck is in there, by both it’s colour and embroidery on the front. For me, as a reader, it’s important to offer a choice for your reading, but for the blog, there can be, only one!

  1. I don’t know how many decks I have, as I stopped counting. They fill a five-shelf bookcase, so I think the answer is “a lot”! I buy decks because I like the way the look, or the concept is intriguing. I also receive decks as gifts, and end up with review copies as well.

I have about 10 main decks that I read with, and will swap in some of the others now and then just to change things up. The ones I never swap out are the Aquarian, the Wheel of Change, Voyager, Tarot of the Crone, and Brian William’s version of the Minchiate.
