Wildwood COTD: Card 6, The Forest Lovers.

This card shows us two people, holding hands around a may pole that is a Silver Birch. This is often interpreted as Robin Hood & Maid Marian, performing their own hand-fasting. It shows the signs of spring in the lilies growing in the foreground and the Birch tree in leaf between the two lovers. I’ll have to post my interpretations later… this one is going to need thinking about, for I am not sure what it is trying to tell me about today. I had to pick the book up on this one and I read the following: The forest lovers represent both balance in a relationship and the sexual union between two polarised individuals. This in itself encompasses the love of all nature, both human and ecological as well as that of individuals. And another excerpt from the book: It is an interchange of energy and passion, not the surrender or domination of either but a voluntary exchange of willpower and respect. So, as the last sentence of this card from the book says (and after experiencing today) it is a reminder to always bring the light of love (for yourself and others)  with you; allow it to illuminate…

Wildwood COTD : 5 of Stones

The keyword with this card is endurance. As you can see from the image below, this little chap is going to endure a night outdoors. And to boot, there’s a storm brewing behind him. That does not worry him. He’s in a sheltered spot and he has a fire burning away at his feet. Life I think is a tale of endurance. And not just life, but the trials and tribulations that go on within life happening around and to people! Life is what happens when you stand still, so it is claimed. But I think this lad will remember this night for a time to come. What will you remember from today?

Wildwood COTD: 8 of Stones

This is from the Minor Arcana side of the deck and in this card, my first impression was of the 8 of Pentacles, which is usually an indication of repetitiveness. However, none of these stones are the same: there is no repetition here. So, what is this card trying to tell me? There are tools here: stone tools but tools none the less. This man has the skill to make these tools. Do I have the skills I need to carry on from The Shaman card of yesterday? It’s at this point I read the book and find that what I’ve examined in the card and my thoughts in processing it, are more of less what Mark Ryan has written down for this cards’ meaning. However, I don’t feel like the old man sitting in the middle a room, making these tools.  I am just hoping that the man is metaphorical!

Wildwood COTD: Card 1 – The Shaman

This is the second Major in the deck and he depicts a Spiritual new beginning. All the tools he needs are at his disposal, ready and waiting. I feel he is telling me that a new time for me has begun. He “jumped” out of the pack at me this morning while I was shuffling them. I’m guessing that now is the time and I had to be told. I don’t feel this deck will mess around 🙂

My First Reading with The Wildwood

Firstly, Blessed Beltane to everyone! Will Worthington, Mark Ryan and John Matthews have re-launched an updated version of the highly popular and cult Tarot Deck, The Greenwood. The new re-incarnation is The Wildwood and going by the enthusiasm on TABI’s forum, it’s striking a cord with a lot of members! (But be advised, if you are lucky enough to have The Greenwood, this deck does vary with some of the cards and the meanings, so don’t expect it to be an exact copy or work in the same way!) You can find images and buy The Wildwood deck directly from Will Worthington. Now, having shamelessly plugged this Deck, I have to say that my first reading was quite meaningful. Very often, Tarot Readers will “interview” a new deck using The Interview spread.  It has put into context some of the emotions I’ve been feeling of late: disconnected, tired, listless…. and provided a way for me to work them out. As a result, I’ll post here every so often my “Wildwood Card of the Day” and I’ll start from today. I took out the 6 cards used in this spread from yesterday (I’ve shared this with TABI Members but I feel…
