Happy Imbolc / Groundhog Day – Lighting the Fires of Self

Today is Imbolc or Ground Hog Day. What fires will you light on this festival of Brigid, the Keeper of the Sacred Fire? It’s important today to remember to listen to our intuitive selves, listen to the inner wisdom of our intuitive selves & bring the new growth into our lives.  It’s Imbolc & this time of year is also known as Candlemas*. Candles are often lit to celebrate the return of the lights as the Sun’s light energy increases. The Saint or Goddess associated with this time of year is Brigid, Bride, Brigit, The Maiden or the Keeper of the Sacred Fire. She celebrates intuition, inspiration, divination & the spark of life. It was said that when it rained at this time of year, Brigid was sharing her life-giving waters, fertilising the land. (Have to admit, she’s been crying hard, her tears have fallen as hail these last few days!) In other ancient Celtic Mythology, the Spring Maiden (Olwen, Nawalen, Gewnhyver, Blodeuwedd, Brigid) initiates a young Sun king into a deeply sexual, spiritual experience. The secret of Imbolc (if there is such a secret!) is hidden within these tales. They hint & suggest at the fertile power of the…

The Wonder of Mum, The Tarot Explores

It’s Mother’s Day here in the UK & I’m taking a look at the archetypes of a mum through various decks. There also a free spread you can try for your own mother if you wish. I used this spread in 2016, but it’s applicable today and every day. The First Of My Women The first woman I draw from the deck is the Queen of Cups. (Yes, I’ve reverted to the RWS for this post). This is the lady who is emotionally aware, though in control of what she’s feeling, though she’s often the one that gets used and abused as a mother. The next woman I draw from the deck is Justice. This card always makes me think of Judge Judy. Quick witted, on the ball mentally, willing to stand up for others & seen recompense. She likes things to be as fair as possible. Then I call upon the Queen of Wands, the passionate mother who may be slightly controlling, but certainly wishing you the best. She’s also the one who will tell you to get on with it, just do it. Strength arrived next, kindly holding the lion’s mouth open. In the Wildwood, Strength isn’t a woman,…

Mercury Retrograde : What Did We Learn?

Mercury retrograde is nearly over,  but what did you learn?  Mercury, the planet of communication, goes direct again on the 22nd. Not a moment too soon! What did you learn  through this period of stuck,  backwards and jarred communication? Communication with important,  though we don’t always know how or what to communicate when Mercury is going backwards in the skies above.  We sometimes find out  when Mercury goes direct & the answers come, or when we don’t hear from someone for a time & we wonder why. I asked the Tarot,  “What was my recent lesson with this Mercury retrograde?” The Spread: The positives from  the situation: The Knight of Cups The negatives from the situation:The Page of Cups What to take forward: 3 of Pentacles The Reading: The positives from this Mercury Rx are interesting. The Knight is one of the dynamic four of the Courts, Knights are energetic, young, impetuous and in this case, the emotional one. He’s learning what is acceptable to others, what sits well with him and what doesn’t. He’s all about the self-learning of his emotional self. He’ll stir things up a little just to learn more about himself and others. To me, he is…

Tarot Blog Hop : Inner Queen of Pentacles

Lammas is upon us and with this blog Hop, the wrangler, Joanna from Sun Goddess Tarot, asks us how we celebrate and what do we inspired by with the Queen of Pentacles. Hop Before Me | Master List | Hop After Me Whether you’ve come from Arwen’s blog before me, or dropped straight in just because you can, I bid you welcome and ask that you stay for a wee cuppa tea! Lammas (Or Lughnasadh) is the first day of the Harvests. The bountiful fruits of the summer need to be drawn in, stored, ready for the coming onslaught of the colder months. Hard to believe that it’s nearly five months until the weather outside becomes frightful. But until then, we have cake, picnics and fun in the warm sun! The last time I recall it being this hot, I was pregnant with my eldest and I craved the cooler nights of Lammas. But now, I’ve three children, all growing fast and today, we will probably celebrate with chocolate cake (Queen of Pentacles right there, Mrs Practicality!), fruit kebabs and burgers. All that including swimming lessons and today promises to be a very busy day. How else might I channel…
