It might be midweek but The Wildwood has other ideas about letting me sit down and rest. It’s answer to The Devil has emerged to taunt and tantalize me today. Though, the skeleton of this Devil is not enticing, for he carries a different message to the RWS’s Devil.
Over time, the Pagan spirit of The Devil has undergone much cynical manipulation in the name of politics, religion and doctrine. In olden times, the prime role of this archetype was one of protection, initiation and a human link to the wilderness that once surrounded us. Nature and fertility still surround us, if we can recognise it in its forms of fierceness, ecstasy and sexuality. He stirs irrational fears from the muddy bottom that is the human subconscious and if your soul is rather timid, you might find him rather foreboding. He feeds off fear and panic and loves to feel those emotions.
I rather love the saying: “Pull up your big girl pants, stand tall and suck it in!” Of course, by the phrase “big girl pants” I am not quite talking Bridget Jones’ style passion killers, but those that women over the age of puberty choose to wear: not soiling ourselves in the process!
It’s a round about way of saying: Be brave! The challenge that the Guardian presents varies from one person to another, depending on their journey through this mortal coil and their attitude. Sods law however, says that the situation is going to be complex and may involve an internal readjustment that may be profound. A self understanding is achieved and if you’ve anything hidden or repressed or something that has not been dealt with because of fear, then now is the time to deal with it and sort it out, once and for all.
They say that what does not kill you, makes you stronger. So, no matter how threatening or difficult this situation may appear, you’ll emerge stronger and more resilient from it as a result.
