This week we have Bedivere come and join us. I wonder already, what he will bring to us this week? Reading the reference book, I realise that Bedivere was one of the first to join the Fellowship of The Round Table. He stands for vigilance, trustworthiness, perception and guardianship.
I recognise the name now as the Knight who threw the Sword, Excalibur, back into the Lake of Avalon, where it was caught by The Lady of the Lake. However, Bedwyr’s story goes back further than being the one to stand by Arthur until the very end.
The legends say that he only had one hand, but still managed to wield a sword as well as any other knight. His name is similar to that of his grand-father, Bedevere, who was believed to be the founder of Bayeux (Which I believe is the region that is famous for creating the Bayeux Tapestry).
Because of Bedivere being there, almost right from the start, he’s certainly considered trustworthy, if not loyal. His inner knowledge of the Court of King Arthur makes him a wise and faithful guide on any journey. His final act of Guardianship (that of returning Excalibur) marks him out as someone above the others in which to trust.
If you wish to have a fair and honest response to a quest, question or situation, Bedivere offers it to you. As sword-bearer to the great King, he has been proven to be strong, devoted and loyal. He can also be a little direct, but gentle with it and won’t shrink back from telling things as they must be told.
So this week, accept the challenge, its truths and if you cannot, Bedivere can hold onto it for you: until you’re in the right place to ask for it back.
