This week the heroic, strong, devoted, kind and dedicated Lancelot comes out to join us. He’s gearing up to be his usual heroic self. Is he coming to your aid? Or is he taking you off on a heroic adventure?
Now, Lancelot is one of the characters I do know from the legends of Arthur and the Knights. However, it’s a name, there have been so many tales of him that it’s hard to know which, if any, are true!
We do know that he was French by birth, the son of King Ban of Benoic and his Queen Elaine (not Elaine of Carbonek). He was, in many people’s eyes, the perfect Knight. Strong, brave, heroic, unswerving in his actions. He was also known as Lancelot du Lac because of his fostering in the other-worldly realm of The Lady of The Lake. He took over from Gawain as the Queen’s Champion and fell in love with the same Queen, Guinevere. It was this romantic feelings that drove him to be away from Court. He couldn’t betray his King, so he stays away from temptation to keep his, and his King’s, honour.
Honour is something Lancelot prided himself on, so when he was tricked by Elaine of Carbonek, he went totally mad. That look a lot out of him, but he healed and went in search of the Holy Grail. Being surpassed by his own son and banished from Court probably didn’t help him either and it is said that he died within hours of Guinevere’s death.
He seems to know when trouble is afoot, like he has a sixth sense for it. He has a lot of strength, determination. However, his understanding of love is tainted, so if you’re looking this week to deal with love, best not ask Lancelot. If however, you need the heroic skills to overcome an obstacle, foe, challenge, he’s your man. He can stand shoulder to shoulder with you, or he can lead you into the greatest test and trials you’re about to face. It depends on how best you need to answer the challenge of the week ahead.
What are your challenges for this week? Do you need such a warrior by your side? Or do need him to guide you? My suggestion is that you be as confident this week as this warrior is: call on him when you need him to either battle alongside you, or before you. Be heroic, fabulous and like Lancelot, fearless.Deck used is the Camelot Oracle by John Matthews, illustrated and (c) by Will Worthington.
