Tarot with a little Spanish Flavour

I have a little Spanish flavour in my deck collection now!

No, that’s not including the use of saffron.

I had the benefits of holidaying in Barcelona this year; a country that is as hot as the cooking & as warm as the hospitality we were shown by those decent folks of Barcelona.  I have this to say to the thieving bastard who pick-pocketed us:

May your armpits be infested with the fleas of 1000 camels & may your arms be too short to scratch.

Nurse with Wound

So, onwards to the holiday, despite spending more time than we would have liked on filing Police reports & getting back on-line so we can talk/communicate in a foreign country, the rest of the holiday was great! Sun, sand, beaches, aquariums, exploration, sangria, mojito’s, paella, Cathedrals, more paella & importantly family time. Okay, so about 5 hours of the last night I could have done without, but I got sorted medically upon my return home.

The Deck I Sought

I did manage to find a shop that sold a traditional Spanish Tarot Deck. The first shop wasn’t exactly helpful, I couldn’t look at the cards, even though they were not wrapped in cellophane in any way. I left there & found this place a few streets away. He was the most delightful chap who spoke good enough English to provide me with what I wanted; a Traditional Spanish tarot deck. Not a Marseille, but a Spanish one.

I went & found an interview spread. I had intended on using one by Caitlín Matthews, but I was itching to interview my new deck, so I found one (I think it was from Angelorum.co (Lisa Eddy)) & used that. I’ll use Caitlín’s later on when interviewing a deck I don’t really use. More to come on that one!

The Cards & Spread

1/ Describe yourself in 3 words – 4 of Pentacles
Dependable, reliable, grounded.

2/ How would your best friend describe you in 3 words? – Justice
Fair, unnerving, honest

3/ What gift do you bring? – Ace of Cups
I bring to you a new way to see things with the emotion of fire, as only Spaniards can!

4/ What do you expect in return? – 9 of Swords
I expect you to start using your brain, not just relying on your intuition, though I’ll tune into that too. Our languages may be an obstacle but it is one we can overcome. I’m going to test you mentally more than emotionally but I’ll push those buttons too.

5/ How can you help me serve? – The Emperor
I can help you serve by guiding you to guide others; by challenging them firmly, gently, mentally & emotionally. I wear my heart on my sleeve; as do you.

6/ Is there anything else about you that I should know? – The Hierophant
Hmm… You should know that I like and want structure, I have boundaries; I expect you to think about what I say/show you. I am fire, I’m linked to Aries & I will show you my hot passions.

Talk about straight talking, no messing! Typical Spanish attitude and I love it! It’s great to get some straight talking decks. Though, I’m likely to have the voice of my lovely Air BNB host who went out of his way to help us on the first day. A true credit to the nice Spanish people & those of the Catalonia region.

The artwork on this is very different from anything else I’ve ever encountered & it is something I wanted. I didn’t see any Tarot shops in Rotterdam last year, but I knew I’d find some in Barcelona. The truth is, we were 5 minutes from the closest one but I really could have spent many hours more in that magic shop! I half expected Penn & Teller to be lurking around somewhere in there. It’s got a little shop front but it goes back 50 or 60 feet & reminds me of the Tardis: Bigger on the inside than the outside looks.

If you get chance, please do go & visit that lovely magic shop (watch out for siesta time!) & keep your wits about you in that city!
